Frequently Asked Questions
Climbing
Mt. Rainier 2008
The climb up Mt. Rainier will be in August 2008. The maximum number of people on the climb is 8 people. If more than 8 people want to participate in the climb, a second team will be created.
Who are the guides?
Climb For Kids will be utilizing the amazing guides over at Alpine Ascents, who have led some of the most famous and most dangerous climbs in the world. Their climbing philosphy and their attention to safety is aligned perfectly with the philosophy of Climb For Kids.
Route
The route up Mt. Rainier will be the standard "Camp Muir" route from the southern part of the mountain. Conditions will dictate which route the team will take above Camp Muir.
What if I don't summit?
Weather, conditions, strength, gear and luck all play a factor in determing whether or not you reach the summit. The goals of this climb are to be 1) be safe, 2) perpetuate the goals of Climb For Kids (fundraising and awareness), and 3) fun. The summit is a secondary goal of the climb, thus no money will be refunded if you do not reach the summit.
When is the climb?
It is currently scheduled for the month of August.
Use of Funds
How will Climb For Kids use the money raised?
The money raised by this group will be directed to charities that directly effect research of fetal syndrome like TTTS and to other charities that support families with TTTS. Other use of the funds will be to pay for climbing expenses and other corporate expenses (like web site hosting, credit card fees, etc).
How do I cancel my participation in the climb?
Send a note to info@climbforkids.org and let us know immediately. We will discuss how to handle any donations you've received to date.
Why is the minimum goal $5,000 per climber?
Our goal is to raise $100,000 per year. A percetage of the money raised will be used to cover climbing fees, which unfortunately are not cheap. $5,000 allows us to pay for one climber's fee and still have enough money left over to be of use to these charities.
Fetal Syndromes
Where do I go to learn more about fetal syndromes?
Wikipedia has a very good article on TTTS and there are other sites like fetal hope which talk about these syndromes in deep detail.
Organization
What is your non-profit status?
We are officially a non-profit organization established in the state of Washington. We have filed for the federal tax designation of 501(c)(3) with the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS takes between 3 and 12 months to approve the application. We have not received that official approval yet.
